Because nothing says "we want it all" quite like buying half the internet. 🤑

In a surprising twist that may redefine the digital gaming media landscape, IGN Entertainment has scooped up the Gamer Network family of digital brands for an undisclosed amount. This strategic acquisition promises to bolster IGN's already extensive portfolio significantly.

The collection of Gamer Network publications—GamesIndustry.biz, Eurogamer, Rock Paper Shotgun, VG247, and Dicebreaker—now falls under the IGN umbrella. Adding to its impressive lineup, the network also holds stakes in Outside Xbox, Digital Foundry, and Hookshot, the latter managing high-traffic sites like Nintendo Life, Push Square, Pure Xbox, and Time Extension.

As a subsidiary of Ziff Davis, IGN Entertainment already boasts an enviable portfolio of digital properties, including MapGenie, HowLongtoBeat, and Humble Bundle. This new powerhouse acquisition stemmed from ReedPop, known for organizing events like PAX and New York Comic-Con, which initially acquired the Gamer Network in 2018.

What's Out of the Box?

Not every asset came with the deal, though. Events such as EGX and MCM in the UK, as well as the digital brand Popverse, remain under ReedPop's control.

It appears IGN Entertainment is on a mission to tighten its grip on the digital gaming community. Could this be a move towards market monopoly? Only time will tell.

Looks like someone is gunning for digital domination. 🤓

This seismic move in the industry could have far-reaching implications, reshaping how gamers consume news and reviews worldwide. One thing’s for sure: it’s going to be an interesting ride.
