God of War: Ragnarok Animator Praises Fable Developers image

Prominent game animator, Mike York, who has built his nearly two-decade-long career around games including Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, GoldenEye 007, Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption 2, The Callisto Protocol and God of War: Ragnarok, recently issued an accolade for the creators of Fable, developed by Playground Games.

York commended the intricacies in the game's modeling, texture work, and animation. The fine details of the animation particularly impressed him, including subtle nuances such as a barely noticeable throat movement during drinking animations. He also lauded the realistic character hair movement, tight sword grip, and true-to-life character expressions.

Despite his overall awe of the game’s quality, York pointed out a few letdowns. According to him, certain surfaces, like the carpet and sack from the trailer's beginning, appear less detailed than other objects, standing out noticeably.

Attention to Detail

York’s praise on Fable highlights the meticulous attention to detail that has gone into creating the game's realistic animation and character movements. However, his criticism stands as a reminder that even when strides are made, there's always room for improvement. His appreciation serves as a significant compliment to Playground Games as his portfolio includes some of the industry's most celebrated games.
